British stone fit for Royalty!

Advice
You may well have come across Portland paving already without knowing, if you’ve ever undertaken a guided tour of the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the Cunard Building in Liverpool, or St Pauls Cathedral or Buckingham Palace in London. See what we mean? Special.

Portland limestone paving looks and feels incredible. Quarried and mined on the Isle of Portland in Dorset, England since Roman times, it’s available in six different varieties, each has their own colour, characteristics and texture.

Basebed is the oldest and purest in colour, drawn from the bottommost layers – hence the name. Whitbed is a little more textured and varied in colour, while Roach is the top layer, and contains the most variation and marine life impressions.

You can usually spot Portland from its creamy/off-white to light grey colour and fossilised shells, which as well as making it look stunning give it outstanding durability. Even with such amazing heritage, you can use Portland on everything from classically detailed facades to much more contemporary looking projects, thanks to a massive range of looks. Flamboyant Perryfield roach is so rich with shells and fossils it has the rich, swirling look of marble or ice cream, while the incredibly fine grained Perryfield offers a much simpler, cleaner look for internal walls and floors – and you’ll find a huge range in between too.

Certainly, one of the most long-lasting and stylish stone choices you could ever make, it’s also one most likely to add value to your home. After all, if it’s good enough for the Royal Family, it’s good enough for you.
